The Next Year in Business

Recently I've had a number of business owners ask me my views on the economy and what I think business owners need to be doing now.

I believe we are just seeing the previews of coming attractions that are likely to get much worse than any of us have scene in prior recessions. What does this mean for us as business owners?

1. Now is the time to invest in your future by NOT pulling back and going into fear. You have to move into high gear and show customers what you have to offer that is both different from your competitors and is exactly what they need.

2. Now is the time to manage your emotions and motivate yourself daily by staying in a positive state so that you can notice all of the actual opportunities that this recession will bring to you and your business.

3. Now is the time to look for practical opportunities. Ask yourself what your customers will need and want as the economy worsens. Then ask yourself how you can deliver it to them in ways that will both get them coming back for more and have them sending you referrals. Innovation is simply finding creative ways to address problems. Innovate your products and services so that they meet the needs of a changing financial climate.

Now is the time to win and win big in new ways. Think about this from your customer's perspective - give them what they need and you'll be one of the businesses that thrive in hard times.

Phase 1 of economic changes - J V Crum, III, Business Coaching, Financial Freedom

Phase 1 began in earnest this year and will end in the next few months. This is the phase in which the major initial collapse of credit and banks occurs - and the government responds to it. The major event in the market this phase is the initial bottom with the bear market rally. If you look at charts, as I do, then you will find that the initial bear market rally is usually the best one.

This is the time to choose to live in a resourceful state, not one of fear. The reason is when you go to fear, you constrict your energy and vision for what is possible, As a result, you miss seeing the real opportunities that abound all around you.

Ask yourself right now how many ways you can profit during this downturn? What will other people and businesses be needing - and wanting right now and over the next 6 months to 3 years?

Wealth Exercise:

1. make a list of the needs and wants (make these 2 lists - needs and wants) that people will have over the next 6 months to 3 years.

2. make a list of the needs and wants (make 2 lists - needs and wants) that people will have over the next 6 months to 3 years.

3. NOW list out all the ways that you personally or your business can meet those needs.

This is your beginning step for PROFITING IN BAD TIMES BY HELPING OTHERS GET THEIR NEEDS AND WANTS MET.

The 3 Phases of New Econmic Realities - J V Crum, III, Business Success Coaching, Financial Freedom

Greetings and welcome!

I have been reading books, articles, and reviewing the market action, including the charts the past month. One of the reasons I work with people to achieve financial freedom through how they handle their finances and build their businesses is that this is my passion. I can stay up all night reviewing charts, taking in the information and developing a view of what is occurring.

I have divided this into 3 Phases. We are now in the first phase.

PHASE 1 = bank/credit crunch with government response. Early stage of bear market.

PHASE 2 = global recession/down turn that may last 2-3 years. It will be shorter than it could have been if the world governments had not acted in the past few weeks. At the same time, I expect it will still be deep and prolonged. US unemployment should reach 8-9% by spring 2009 and I still believe that housing has 10-20% more on the downside in many places.

We will go through many more foreclosures, business failures, and credit collapses, especially of individual credit situations as the majority of people are over-extended and new credit will be harder to obtain as this downturn progresses.

PHASE 3 = recovery. As this is the longest projection, it is the one most subject to revision depending on how Phase 2 unfolds. Currently I believe we will be in recovery starting 2-4 years out.

I have decided to devote the next series of blog entries to providing you with ways to approach your small business, personal finances and maintain the right mental/emotional framework. This is important because instead of going into a place of fear, which is NOT resourceful, you go into a place where you SEE the MANY OPPORTUNITIES that will ABOUND in this environment.

Many NEW millionaires result from the opportunities that are already all around YOU.

For now, consider the three phases and start to make a list of what the NEEDS and WANTS other people will be as this downturn unfolds. That, my friend, is your starting secret for turning hard times into millionaire success - and helping others get what they need in the process!

Take out your check book and write yourself a check in the amount of $1,000,000.00 - One Million Dollars.

How does that feel?

Now Date it for a date and time in the future when you want to be able to cash it - as money you have earned for doing something specific. Maybe it is owning your own business, or being a Super Sales Person, or using your talents in a specific way.

On the check write the date and on the line below the amount, the memo line, write down the reason you are getting paid this much - what you did to get this.

Put it in your wallet - every day ask yourself what you will do today so that you can be certain to cash that check on the date you chose.

Yeah - you just planted a seed that can grow into a Million Dollars. You just made a shift in your Wealth Consciousness.

Identify Your Mental Blocks - J V Crum, III, Conscious Millionaire Success Coach

One of the major ways we hold ourselves back is by not dissolving our mental blocks. These are all the things we say to yourselves, our thoughts and beliefs that literally keep us from reaching the level of success that we want.

To do this, explore your relationship with money - here is how:

1. write out all of your beliefs about money - how you make it, what happens to it, whether it's right to have it, how you use it....

2. mark any of these beliefs that are negative or in any way would hold you back with an "X"

3. ask yourself what are you GAINING from believing this - the gains keep you believing them

4. ask yourself what is it COSTING you to believe this - what are you giving up or not achieving because of this

5. then write down any times you've noticed this was NOT true in your life or another's, or make up stories that would make this belief not true

6. write the opposite, empowering belief down

7. write down any times you've noticed this IS true in your life or another's, or make up stories that would make this belief to be TRUE

8. now write down what you'll gain in general from believing this

9. finally, write down all that you will gain financially from believing this

Notice that you now believe the opposite of the negative/limiting belief that you started with.

Here are the 3 top Keys to being more productive - like all of the strategies I teach, these are easy to apply - you just have to be aware of them and then use them.

1. Every Day know your Top 3 Priorities - in that order - 1, 2, 3, and organize your day so that these are your focal point.

2. Get rid of all the time wasters in your life - right now make a list of all the ways you waste time from doing your errands at different times to ways you keep yourself from getting started more quickly to those extra conversations around that eat up your time. Make the list now.

3. Lean to say NO! Anything that isn't one of your top 3 Priorities or doesn't absolutely have to be done is a distraction. SAY NO TO ALL DISTRACTIONS.

You are the one in CONTROL - always remember that and choose your day accordingly.

The 80% Factor and Financial Freedom - J V Crum, III, Conscious Millionaire Success Coach

We've all heard of the 80% factor - that 20% of your people create 80% of the results. Well, if you want to create Financial Freedom, you have to apply the 80% factor differently.

I was in the book store the other day in the business book section. I was talking to a guy about what I do and told him I teach people how to become financially free. He wanted to know how.

It's easy, I told him it's just that most people don't do the basics - they aren't consistent in their discipline so create they don't create any freedom.

The 80% factor - take no more than 80% of what you make, after taxes, and live on it. Then take 20% and put it into a diversified portfolio (this spreads your risk and any financial advisor can offer you many options) - and this is the magic:

Put it in regularly - then leave it alone, in up and down markets. Over 10, 20, 30 years this will make you financially free. So, if it's that simple why aren't most people financially free.

They don't do this.

What would it be like to live in a world in which people chose their work based on what they valued most in life and were fulfilled by the way they earned their livelihood?
